About Harte Essence Psychotherapy

I am Shane Harte, a psychotherapist, healthcare assistant, and end-of-life companion. With years of experience in palliative care, I offer emotional, practical, and spiritual support to individuals and families at the threshold of life and death.

My approach blends psychotherapy with what I call a “lunecitic” lens — a way of understanding death not as an ending but as a transition of resonance, energy, and balance. This perspective helps people find peace, dignity, and meaning in their final journey.

I provide bedside presence, life review, family guidance, and gentle rituals that honour both the shadows of fear and the light of acceptance. My role is not medical, but relational: I walk alongside you, holding space with compassion and clarity.

Whether you or a loved one are facing end of life, or whether you are grieving a recent loss, I offer support that bridges the practical with the soulful — a companion for the final arc of life’s journey.

Mission Statement

My mission is to create a therapeutic space where every story is welcomed, every struggle is honoured, and every person is seen not as broken but as resilient. I believe that healing is not about erasing what has happened to us, but about uncovering the strength that carries us forward. Therapy here is guided by the principle that dignity belongs to all, and that even in the deepest struggles there is the possibility of renewal, reconnection, and growth.

Qualifications & Approach

I hold a Level 8 Degree in Holistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, a Level 6 Certificate in Training Development & Evaluation (formerly known as Train the Trainer) and a Level 5 in both Healthcare Support and Special Needs Assistance and have worked in healthcare and mental health services in Ireland for several years.

Alongside formal training, I bring a deep commitment to ongoing learning through CPD, professional development, and reflective practice.

My approach is integrative — drawing from person-centred therapy, existential perspectives, and psychosynthesis.

This means I adapt therapy to you, rather than asking you to fit into one rigid model. Every client’s journey is unique, and therapy should reflect that.

My Approach to Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is not about quick fixes. It is about creating a supportive relationship that allows for:

  • A safe, confidential space where you can share openly.
  • Exploring your experiences, beliefs, and emotions at your own pace.
  • Finding meaning and understanding in challenges.
  • Developing resilience and self-awareness that last long after sessions end.

I believe each person already carries the seeds of change within them. Therapy is the process of uncovering, nurturing, and living those possibilities.

Why “Harte Essence”?

I bring to my practice both professional training and lived experience. Having walked through my own shadows, I know that the human journey is rarely straightforward. Struggle, addiction, loss, and failure do not disqualify us from healing — they are often the soil from which resilience grows.

This is why my therapeutic approach places emphasis on wholeness rather than perfection, resilience rather than flawlessness, and the capacity to rebuild rather than the fear of collapse. I hold that therapy is less about “fixing” and more about uncovering: uncovering inner tools, uncovering compassion for the self, and uncovering new possibilities for living.

The name signifies both my personal commitment and the essence of the therapeutic process: getting to the heart of who you are. It represents depth, authenticity, and transformation — values that guide every session.

Every session is rooted in three commitments:

  • Safety — creating a space free from judgement, where honesty can take root.
  • Dignity — meeting each client as a whole person, not as a diagnosis.
  • Resilience — holding hope that no matter how heavy the past, strength and growth remain possible.

This is not just my philosophy — it is the story I continue to live myself.

Working Together

I work with adults (both individual and couple sessions) across Ireland, offering both online therapy and, where possible, in-person sessions. Alongside this, I also support individuals and families at the end of life in the Midlands region. As an end-of-life companion, I offer guidance, presence, and rituals that bring dignity, meaning, and balance to the dying process. Whether you are seeking support for mental health, personal growth, or the final stages of life, I provide a safe and resonant space to be heard, understood, and held.

My practice is open to anyone who feels ready to take the step toward understanding themselves more fully, healing from past experiences, or simply finding clarity in the present.

Therapy at Harte Essence is about you — your story, your needs, and your growth.
